A galaxy of famous names including more than 20 world champions holding more than 70 championship titles between them has been confirmed for the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Foremost among them are reigning F1 champion Jenson Button along with team-mate and 2008 champion Lewis Hamilton.

Situated at the top of the hillclimb, the challenging Forest Rally Stage was designed with the help of former World Rally Champion Hannu Mikkola, and each year hosts around 50 cars and top drivers from the history of rallying, including many of the current WRC teams and drivers.
The tough 1.67 mile loose-surface track provides a thrilling, up close demonstration of consummate driving skill throughout the three days of the Festival weekend.
Past rallying masters seen in action on the Goodwood Forest Rally Stage have included RAC winners Rauno Aaltonen, Markku Alen and Petter Solberg, and British rally legends Russell Brookes and Jimmy McRae, as well as international superstars such as Sebastien Loeb and Marcus Gronholm.

The Hillclimb is the Festival of Speed’s principal attraction. Taking place throughout the weekend, this challenging white-knuckled 1.16-mile course starts as a tree-lined run through the southern corner of the Goodwood Estate which then turns to sweep past the front of Goodwood House before climbing a steep and narrow Estate road bordered by flint walls and dense woodland groves towards Goodwood’s equine racecourse on top of the magnificent South Downs.
The course rises over 300ft from the start line to the finish, and is very technical and challenging, putting the skills of the world’s very best drivers and riders to the ultimate test of concentration and speed.

From 2-4 July, Goodwood will be in celebratory mode as it marks a number of significant motor sport and automotive anniversaries and key moments. A selection of the many anniversaries being recognised at the 2010 Festival of Speed will include:
100 Years:
Alfa Romeo:
The legendary Italian marque celebrates its centenary in style with a stunning central feature and an impressive collection of the revered Milanese manufacturer’s most important motor racing and road car moments, from the dominant pre-War 1750, 6C and 8C racers, through to the stylish and desirable post-War Alfas, including the Tipo 33 racers and brand new Giulietta, due to make its British public debut at the Festival of Speed. For more information, please see the accompanying Alfa Romeo news release.
60 Years:
Formula One World Championship:
Since the inaugural World Championship in 1950 – won by Dr Giuseppe Farina in a stunning Alfa Romeo 158 ‘Alfetta’ – Formula One has maintained its place as the very pinnacle of motor sport. The names of the great drivers – Fangio, Ascari, Moss, Clark, Stewart, Prost, Senna, Schumacher, Alonso, Hamilton, Button – trip off the tongue as easily as those of the classic manufacturers – Ferrari, Maserati, Mercedes, Vanwall, BRM, Lotus, Brabham, McLaren, Williams, Renault. Simply put, for many people Formula One IS motor racing. The 2010 Festival of Speed will celebrate F1’s 60th anniversary with a momentous gathering of cars and drivers illustrating many of the key moments in the formula’s rich and varied history. The Earl of March has now confirmed the theme of the 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed (being held on 2-4 July) as ‘Viva Veloce! – The Passion for Speed’. From Alfa Romeo to MV Agusta, Ascari to Agostini, and Monza to the Mille Miglia, Italians have raced with breathtaking fervour, inspiring desire and devotion that transcends national identity.
